The ancient village of Lyons was located south of Celbridge and a short distance from Ardclough in county Kildare. It once held its own race meeting in September 1755 on a course on the Commons of Lyons. The Purse for 10 Guineas was contested by a field of four and was won by Mr Kavanagh’s black horse. There are no further records of meetings taking place in the vicinity of Lyons and today the beautiful countryside is used as a top class wedding venue.
